Using Downtime – Relax your Way to Victory

With the USARPS Championship qualifying tournaments winding down all over the country, if you’re reading this you’re probably still in the game and heading to Vegas.  You may be a little surprised, but you remember how it feels to go on an uncanny winning streak of four or five games, winning a qualifier while out with friends.  They probably bought you a round, and you laughed it off.  Next, you went to the regional qualifier and started to wonder if there really was something to RPS strategy.  You coasted through the regional, and found yourself going to Vegas to compete for $50,000 and the title.  You haven’t lost a game of RPS in months, and you probably feel like you’re pretty special.

Well, wake up.  The harsh reality is that there are over 300 people out there who feel the same way you do.  They haven’t lost in months either, and they see you as just another nameless face they’ll have to step on to ascend the mountain of RPS glory.  What can you do now to increase your odds against this nameless horde?  Probably nothing.  If you train too hard right now, you may be in no shape to compete in Vegas.  Your best bet is to trust your training, trust your trainer, and focus on the intuitive aspects of your game.  Meditation, relaxation, and any stress-relieving activity are your best bets.  Good luck- it’s a long way to the 50K… but one of you is going to get there!
